Your vote could mean so much ….

R.K. Henshall recently nominated a local charity called Supported Community Business (Special Needs) Ltd to participate in the Aviva Community Fund Awards 2018.

We are very pleased to announce that our application has been accepted and the public votes are now open to be in with a chance of winning one of the cash awards ranging from between £1000 and £25,000.

Supported Community Business (Special Needs) Ltd was founded in 1998 by John Coupland and his co-founder Mike Card. John's daughter had special needs and was becoming increasingly frustrated with society and the apparent lack of access to the same working opportunities and to experience the world of work as other people of her age.

She wanted to learn what it was like to work, to feel a sense of achievement, earn an income, meet friends and have a sense of purpose. Failing to locate such an opportunity they created Supported Community Business (Special Needs) Ltd. That was back in October 1998 and to this day, the charity is still helping others achieve their goals and develop their potential.

Supported Community Business (Special Needs) provides a therapeutic workshop facility where those in the local community with special needs or learning difficulties can experience real work tasks in a controlled and supportive environment.

Supported Community Business (Special Needs) Ltd is a registered Charity and not-for-profit organisation based in Crewe, Cheshire.

Disabled people of working age in the UK are five times more likely to be out of work than a non-disabled person, and this matters. At Supported Community Business (Special Needs) Ltd, they understand that many of those 6.8 million just want to be part of the working world, but feel that as a society those needs are often not accommodated.

That’s why Supported Community Business (Special Needs) Ltd aim to make a difference to the lives of some of those people. Since they were established they have helped over 60 people to experience a real working day. This has helped them to develop working abilities including knowledge and understanding of the workplace whilst building valuable social skills that are transferable to life outside the workplace too.

Supported Community Business (Special Needs) Ltd offers a unique opportunity to support ambition in special needs individuals and enable them to fulfil their potential.
The facility also offers support and respite to parents and carers, who can plan their own days and schedules around that of the workshop.

Through tasks outsourced to them from local businesses they have not only seen their Service User’s confidence and abilities grow, but also established the trust and belief of their commercial clients to deliver a great service, demonstrating that together, they can make a real difference.

The business is currently looking into replacing the warm air blower for the building which is their main source of heating this community funding would go a long way in helping to achieve this.

As a small local Charity every penny counts, so any votes you could cast in support of SCB via the link below would be very much appreciated.
