Insurance Requirements in your Industry

Despite having the best of intentions, you may still be held liable for claims made by employees, members of the public or related organisations.  If someone gets hurt during one of your events, or you issue advice which causes detriment to someone, damages and associated legal defence fees can accumulate rapidly.

Key covers to consider

Liability Insurance

  • Public/ Products Liability Insurance  If someone is accidentally injured in your workplace, or if their property is accidentally damaged due to your business’ activities or because of the products you supplied, your business could be responsible by law. Public liability insurance can protect your business against claims to cover damages and legal costs that people may make against your business.
  • Employers’ Liability Insurance is a legal requirement under the Employers’ Liability Act 1969. It’s there to protect your employees if they get injured or become ill as a result of working for your business. It covers the damages, compensation costs and legal fees that a current or ex-employee is entitled to as a result of illness or injury which may have been caused while working for your business.

Buildings and Contents

Cover for your computers and office equipment, general stock, general fittings etc. and business interruption.

Cyber and Data Insurance Cover

To protect your organisation against Cyber Crime. Charities and not for profit organisations often rely on technology to operate effectively and therefore run the risk of a data breach or a virus. Criminals will not look to differentiate just because you are a charity or a good cause. They look to exploit any organisation with weak cyber security.

Professional Indemnity

If your organisation provides a professional service, such as counselling, or any form of advice or information, you could be held liable if the service, advice or information was provided negligently. You could be held legally liable for loss, injury or damage that was sustained when the service was provided or as a result of following the advice or information.

Specialist Covers

  • Abuse Extension
  • Medical malpractice – acts or omissions in the course of your professional duties. This can include injury, misdiagnosis, delays in referral, physical or mental harm to a patient.
